Founded by Michael Kirt Kasmar, a recovering addict himself, who bravely embarked on his own journey to sobriety in 1994 and has remained clean ever since. Michael’s story is deeply rooted in a family profoundly affected by addiction.
In the face of adversity, Michael found the strength to overcome addiction, despite the painful loss of his father to this relentless disease. Left with his mother and brothers, all struggling with active addiction, Michael’s journey to recovery became a lifeline that inspired remarkable change within his family.
Through Michael’s transformation, his family witnessed the power of recovery and the hope it brings. In a remarkable turn of events, his mother and both brothers found the courage to follow in his footsteps, defying the tragic cycle that had plagued their lives.

The sad reality is that the treatment center in Hartford, Connecticut, where Michael found his own path to recovery, no longer exists. Over the years, addiction has continued to escalate, leaving countless individuals in desperate need of support. Witnessing the diminishing resources and opportunities for genuine help with addiction, Michael felt compelled to take action.
At The Kasmar Foundation, we are committed to providing financial assistance for addiction treatment, creating safe and supportive recovery houses, and building a comprehensive treatment center and detox facility.
